Nice Pics :D . Number 1 is supposed to be blocked off. these are from the factory machining of the head. Number 2 is supposed to have a PCV valve or in race use going to a catch can(not road legal). The silver unit is not used on the Piazza version of this engine, a welsh plug is used to plug up thi...

If you use sohc flat top pistons (these normally raise the comp on a sohc) the compression ratio will be lowered. If you have the cc volume of the head then you can work out the ratio. I have the cc numbers at home somewhere. If you are thinking of turboing the engine then this is not a bad idea. Lu...

Bradlze - I had a 1800 like this type. Yes it is a very early one. The timing chain tensioner is different as well. Your one has a threaded bolt on the tensioner and the later ones have 3 bolts holding a ratchet type tensioner. Also the big silver breather on the side of the block is not used on the...

archangel62 - Any idea what that'd cost to setup? The cost would be about the price of buying two spare twin cam engines. I have just installed one on my race car. I sourced used parts which saved me alot but it is still expensive. ............... NEW .......... USED Pump .... $1300+....... $600 Ta...

I have used a 1227808 on a Nissan L18, great system. You just need all the matching parts if you want to use the standard memcals without alteration. I used all N13 Pulsar/ Astra Injectors, map sensor, Air temp, Water Temp, Throttle position etc.. Engine size is the same at 1.8L. (Intake manifold an...

one had a starter motor problem! -Number 4 piston cam out and broke the starter motor  The other snapped a crank and number 4 rod came through the block. I had ideas of sectioning the block so I could see the valve to piston clearance when rotating the crank with the head on or if someo...

The valves are as big as you can fit. The ports have been modified. The lift is very high. You might spend a $1000 on a flow bench again for maybe a 10-15hp gain. A 16 valve head will flow so much more due to the valve area. One thing to remember just because it doesn't have as much power as a sr20 ...

AS Robbo said. I buy my rings from APEP in Melbourne. Just tell them the sizes you need. Back on the topic of pistons - Pioda, you would be better of get a set of forged pistons from someone like Special Piston Servies in Melb. It cost me about $300 for one piston to be made to the exact copy of a d...

Starter Motors replacements
Does anyone know of any other starter motors that fit the twin cam engine? I do know that the twin cam starter is rated at 1.1kw and the sohc starter is 900watts. I have never tried a sohc starter which should have enough grunt when cold but when it gets hot it might stuggle?

Poida, I ran the Delco 808 on my twin cam for a few years. I used the 2lt memcal and changed the rev limit to 7500rpm. My engine had the Holden Map,TPS,Air temp and Coolant sensors and IAC valve. I had a damaged dissy so I adapted the stock camira dissy on top of the twin cam housing ( it was a bit ...
