Do you have a specific model or engine in mind? EG - gtr, zzr, 117, piazza, G161, 180, 200W etc?

Yeah sorry i have a 200w that i'd like to know what it came from so i can find out what pollution gear i'm going to need when i put it in my car.

G200Ws were fitted to mainly the early Piazza and 117 coupe.
117s had inlet manifolds out to the RHS with upright oil filter.
Piazzas had "over the top" inlets with forward-down oil filters.
All G200Ws were EFI.
A date stamp should exist on the left side of the block (eg 79).

Maybe others can add to my/this info.

I think you should look at the ADRs. I think you will find the anti pollution gear is also tied in with the year of manufacture of the "whole " vehicle. I have an 83 or there about G180W. Fitted to a Gemini of that year it would have to comply with that year. As it is in a 1965 shell it has to comply with the 1965 rules ( I like the 1965 rules). Put it into say a 2006 vehicle then that is the rule that will be required.

Actually I think all the "engine" ADRs prior to about 1974 are quite acceptable. Unless things have changed, I can put yesterday's engine in my '72 GT and change all the breathing etc. And noise! It's only the capacity and engineering etc rules that apply.

So that would be on the back of the block under the starter?

left side. G number is up front (under alternator); date usually rear of centre.

SlrZZZ,
Is your oil filter pointing up, or forward down?
Does the plenum intake go over the cam cover to the LHS, or straight out to the right & forward?
Are there engine mounts up the front, or back & central?

That should determine if it's Piazza, 117 or something else.

forward down, over the cam cover and back and central, 83 stamp on the left rear (passenger side) under or behind the
starter motor

Nice one KE,
Look after those front engine mounts eh!

Let me know if you still need the upright filters.

FYI - picked up upright oil filter & front mounts (60 degree but with 45 degree adaptor) from a G180 SOHC (not Z) at Clayton (Melbourne, Oz) wreckers.
Not often you see the old SOHCs, but the G180 SOHC is the same block as the G200W.
Dunno if they were available in NZ?
