Bellett GT

Post by Dave »

Hi,

yeah I just found this site - should come in handy!

Have been slack with fixing up my cars this year coz we were saving for a holiday! God damned cars - if it wasn't for my VY SS Sandman, I'd have the money to do them up a bit quicker! I saved all year for this trip and I'm only going as far as Alice Springs.

Upon return will try to get my Bellett GT on the road. It's frustrating coz it's like a little mis-guided missile when it's going, but it hasn't been approved for rego yet coz it came from interstate with a G200W EFI engine in

I was hoping the motor rego people would not know what engine it should have had, however they did.

Anyway if anyone is interested in pics let me know and I'll email them.

Be good!

Cheers,

Dave

You had the "breadvan", the cream TD Van that you raced at Mallala right [i think thats the spelling?]. Welcome aboard and post some pics up of the Bellet, good to see some non-Geminis up here.

Is the G200w running the standard injection system or an aftermarket setup? Shouldnt really matter anyway seeing as the Bellet is pre-EPA ADR27A, you'll prob just need a brake upgrade.

Hey Dave - I presume the GT is an "ex-Camira" (ha ha - ie, Camira - Brisbane) unit?
If it is, it was originally registered in Vic and later Qld.
Surely that should be of some weight for registration?
As to pollution etc - that's the beauty of it - it is pre-ADR (1974?) and hence any engine will do - it does not not need to meet the post-ADR EPA regulations (unless that has recently changed?).

i know Dave well, and the car is the 'treasurer's' white EFI GT that we're familiar with.

Yep, that's the one....
And I guess you're the wild Bellett Racer?
I'm the other ex-treasurer with the OHV Wasp (albeit with a Florian engine).

Did ya see the Bellett on ABC2's LateNightLegends? I PC-captured mos of it (missed the first 2 of 5 laps). Did pretty well against a 186 Holden....

Ooops - I'm hijacking the thread....

... Since Dave's GT was "first registered" in Vic with the 2L DOHC, I figured the SA authorities should have some reassurance - or isn't VicRoads as respected as it once was?
Also that Dean later got it registered in Qld...

Mind you, there are some dumb RWC dudes. When I last got an RWC for my 2L DOHC Florian, the RWCer reckoned I had to get a letter from VicRoads saying it was legal on the basis of EPA requirements (ie - not because it was 2000cc). I stated that the Florian was 1960s and pre-dates the 1974-onwards ADRs. This had no impact. I changed RWCer and had no problems. Some responsibility-shirking ignoramuses just ain't worth the trouble. (The place is now a K-Mart workshop - ha ha!)

Cheers,
Peter.

BTW - I think the dizzy on Dave's G200W is off a Honda.
Dean modified and fitted it at my place many years ago.
From memory it involved shortening its shaft and/or body (with a hacksaw), and fitting the DOHC's drive gear.
