If i remember correctly its on the rear of the block stamped on the brace to the gearbox, where the block starts to bellow into the sump.

Could be wrong, i don't have a block here to look at.

Ok, thanks, I'll have a look in the daylight. Anyone else got an idea while we are here?

It helps when your engine is in your spare room, with no head.

I have a 5 digit imprint (not Isuzu lol) on the inlet side, towards the front and upwards from the engine mount there. I can draw a paint pic if you want, but I don't have a camera. Basically find the engine mount on the inlet side and go right 5cm and up 5cm, and you should find a number looking something like this:

Z####
_A__S

(the underscores are just to space it as double spaces are removed)

Also I have a three digit number directly to the left of the engine mount, maybe 15cm over (close to the back of the block).

By the way, I got the head off..

archangel62 thats not the engine number

the engine number is 6 digits
standing at your front right wheel look between (look through the gap) the inlet manifold between the 4th and 3rd ie towards the firewall side there it should be there. it is on a flat bit of machined metal facing the sky... trust me get some degreaser cos my was very dirty

the piece of metal its on is slightly sloping down and no more than 15cm from the manifold

the number for the g180w starts with a 2xxxxx
its in the same spot for the g200w too

It's definately there. Thanks for that.

It also matches the number on the past nine years of rego certifaicates.
Hopefully that means just present it with roadworthy certificate and pay the rego fees.

Yeah I drove up to Brisbane with some parts for a special project and then went on to Bundaberg for a week or so. I stopped off again in Brisbane for a day on the way back and loaded up with two Rodeo diesel engines and a gearbox then brought them back home via Sydney.
